Ling Zhi (aka Ganoderma, aka Reishi) is a most prized medicinal. “Ling” means soul, spirit, mind, and “Zhi” means magic fungus. According to the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing (Divine Farmer’s Materia Medica Classic), it is considered a superior medicinal.

Prolonged consumption “cultivates loyalty, honesty, gentleness, and a carefree mind, and may make the body light, prevent senility, and prolong life so as to make one an immortal.” Doaist monks used reishi as a “shen tonic”, an alchemical substance to nourish and clarify the spirit of the heart-mind.
